My name is Rachel. I’m originally from Canada, but twenty years ago, I traded my snow shovel for a pair of sunglasses when I moved to Southern California. I work at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory on a new citizen science project called Exoplanet Watch. We have 500 beta testers so far, and we’re always looking for more, so feel free to join us if you want to observe planets orbiting stars beyond our solar system.
This is my third time taking MIT’s Learning Creative Learning class. I always learn something new here. I have made friends through LCL, and I hope that you will find like-minded creative people here, too.
I’m excited to be starting a new session, and maybe this time I’ll learn some new tips and tricks in Scratch.
Like many people, I have picked up some hobbies over the past two years, including nature photography, baking, writing poetry, and having creativity Zoom meetings with people who are interested in everything from puppets to LEGO to Scouts to world travel.
I’m looking forward to meeting you in an upcoming discussion about passion, projects, peers, and play.
Thanks for sharing your story Rachel… what a coincidence that I live in Canada too and have plans to visit your place soon… perhaps this is why I could relate myself to your story … I just hope that someday we can meet in person….and in the mean time explore LCL joyfully!

Hello everyone, I’m Koray, I’m going for a doctorate on mother tongue education in Turkey. I am a creative drama leader. I am studying creative thinking techniques in mother tongue.
My name is Matthew. I live in Derbyshire in the UK. I work at University of Derby training the next generation of primary school teachers. I share the view that learning happens when we play, when we explore, when we tinker. I am frustrated by the UK education system as it seems to be all about delivery of knowledge so that exams can be passed. There is no emphasis on the student led learning. I’m hoping that this course will give me ideas of how to adapt my teaching.
Kathryn from London, UK. I’ve recently retired after 31 years as a maths teacher (11-18 yr olds) I first encountered ‘Mindstorms’ on my PGCE teacher training course, but Papert’s ideas just sort of stayed in the background, until I started a Master’s in STEM Education and Papert was on the reading list! I’ve become interested in ‘Making & creating’ as a pedagogy, have been experimenting with Turtlestitch and block coding, and thought it was time to learn more!
Hello! I’m Sarah. I’m from the San Francisco Bay Area in California, U.S.A. I am currently doing freelance educational writing and working on a few creative projects. I am excited to meet more people passionate about media and education! And I am excited to explore new ways in which play, discovery, technology, and storytelling can be used to educate and empower.
