[Activity 5] Take Time for Tinkering

I have recently got interested in drawing, so I’m trying to learn a bit about the Turtle library of Python. For now, I’ve successfully coded to generate some simple patterns. I guess for next I’ll try to learn how to make more difficult patterns. Hope one day I can generate my own design snowflakes from this.

Hello everyone!
This week I have used building blocks to make something new. I have not pre-planned it. But by just playing with these blocks, this is what came out.
Hope you all will like it.

Thank you !

After thinking a lot this is what I have tinker with Rangometry

@SomaSri it looks like one of those creations you might like looking at so much, you might consider never packing it away : ) :peacock:
…so thinking maybe it could inspire similar designs in other forms too, like maybe a collage ?

This time, I try to playfully experiment with Unity game engine. From here, we can created cool game by implemented physics concepts that we have learned in school. Also, because my company is code course for children, I also teach my students how to created game in Unity & how to implemented physics concepts that they was learned in school.

From project that I was created, I try to created simple open world game like Genshin Impact, even though there are so many bugs in my game. From this project, I noticed that we can not just implemented physics concepts, but also our imagination like created game that have great storytelling. Next time, I wan to try add some quests or storytelling, so that my game will more fun.

I’d never tried making a sun-print onto fabric before, so decided to give it a try on a plain canvas tote bag. I had some sheets of film you could laser print a photo negative or draw a design onto, and some photo-sensitive purple dye to coat the fabric, which would create a print from the design when exposed to sunlight. First tried laser printing a photo negative, but found it needed to be very high-contrast photo to work well. Next tried drawing a design based on a project with some letter shapes, cut from felt with added googly eyes, I’d made during lockdown - so it was sort of a remix! :eyes:

The instructions on the dye suggested leaving the fabric in the sun for around 15 minutes, but it was a very bright day so at first I left it for only 10, but the print was still very over-exposed. I tried again for a much shorter time, and the print was a little better but still quite, umm… purple! I had no more plain fabric, but I did have textile paints, so decided to paint over the over-exposed prints with a new design : ) So Love turned into Joy! : D

I discovered it’s best to lay cardboard inside the bag to stop the textile paint bleeding through to the other side, but really liked painting directly onto the fabric! When I get some more supplies in future, I’d love to play with sun-printing onto fabric again, to see if I could get a clearer print, and then add some extra colours and details by hand with paints :sunny:

Sou professor de Cultura de Inovação aqui no Brasil e uma das ferramentas que mais utilizado é o Scratch, pois trabalho diretamente com o Pensamento Computacional.
A forma que eu mais consigo desenvolver atividades para os alunos é me divertindo brincando no Scratch, tentando criar algo que eu gosto. Nesse caso estou tentando criar um RPG, estilo de jogo que adoro e sempre que me divirto consigo criar atividades legais!

I tried tinkering some weeks ago, but I couldn’t quite turn it into a final project.
Still, I’d like to share the process here.

It’s green pea season, so I experimented with the idea of shelling peas—wondering if I could turn that into something fun. The act of taking peas out of the pod felt like a kind of tinkering itself.

At first, I thought about making a Scratch game where you guess how many peas are inside a pod. But the graphics were too plain and boring, so I gave up.
Then I tried turning it into a cute illustration-based game, but that didn’t work out either.

So, I don’t have a final result to share here…
But even without a finished product, I really enjoyed the process of peeling the pods and wondering, “How many peas are inside this one?”

@miyako i LOVE that you shared about tinkering in this way! As you say, celebrating :sparkles: process :sparkles: over product for sure <3

(and those pea pod images all together remind me of a cute patchwork quilt design somehow : ) ) :sewing_needle: :thread:
