we did a program in a school where the kids made puppets as part of sustainabiity. Having a puppet talk is freeing. I think it is something that should be done more. Plus you are obviously good at it- those exagerated features would look so great on a puppet stage!

thank you! I was trying all the cool features. She really laughed a lot when she saw it!

@Yulia hehehe :heart: :notes: :sparkles:

This week I decided to make a piece of digital art work inspired by my recent trips to the five national parks in Utah, USA (Zion, specifically.) I used the Procreate tool and the many options the app provides. I was pleasantly pleased with my product, but know that my finished work can be better with more practice. I got the idea to create this after a family member, inspired by our social media pics during our trip, painted a picture for us upon our return. I thought to myself, “Hey, I can do that, too.” I did encounter challenges as I am not super familiar with the Procreate app itself and the effects each paint brush offered makes on the page. I had to hit the Undo button more times than not!! The experience did inspire me to do that again and using it with my students at school. Upon reflection, there were many skills demonstrated including resilience, testing, modifying, visual focus, etc. The next time I try to paint, I will use some of the information I have gained about the app and learning from the mistakes I made the first time. This was an educational experience that I enjoyed so much!!

Recently, I have been struggling with the disturbing events happening around the world and in my city. The news filters in from everywhere, e.g., co-workers, social media, and television. So, throughout the week, I experimented with different ways to give myself a break from thinking about current events. I tried walking, talking with friends and family, cooking elaborate meals, writing in my journal, teaching, and creating a comforting memories wheel. My comfort wheel was the most consoling. It fits in my bag and I can pull it out whenever I need it.

Wow. This is so touching how this all came together

“As I was reading and thinking about Olesia’s poem, Paco’s beautiful music was still playing as a background, so I got the idea:”

Thank you all. They are beautiful creations.

Here is my little project which I tried on scratch. This one is mine first experience with scratch and it is so amazing to use. I want to learn more on scratch . I created it on the theme of Mother’s day. After all " Create is the root of creativity". Excited to learn more and looking forward to share more projects with all of you. Thank you!

Today I built a paper house, but I was not the first! I wanted to make it as an acknowledgement and response in an on-going conversation - a story that’s not over yet. And as my friend @OLVL says “to share a ripple of kindness”

Olesia shared here a photo of a much prettier paper house with much meaning made by her friend Olena, along with a truly beautiful poem Olesia had written in response. Our fiend Carmelo had wonderfully translated and read the poem over Paco’s beautiful music, which added another layer of meaning, as well as another dimension - sound - to the idea and the words. And Olena’s daughter Sophia had added a tiny clay black cat with a very tiny pink heart on it’s belly.

Olesia and I shared our own stories and layers of meaning. Olena had dreamed of being under ‘big skies’, and Olesia had visions of the paper house fantastically grown full-size and surrounded by those big skies and green fields, with the cat, and the tiny chimney she mentions in her poem, to add even more love and warmth. I somehow wanted to combine all the hopes and dreams we’d each shared into one image… as a way of making it all more real… to help all our hopes come true!

Building the paper house did not take too long. My biggest challenge was that it was a bit windy out on the heath for a paper house to stay on the ground : ) So I had to find a very sheltered spot and wait for the wind to drop enough just to take a few photos. By then it was 6pm, so I used a bluer filter to make it still appear brighter. If I’d had more time I would have loved to make a whole animation of the house being built as in the poem (I could see the whole thing in my mind) rather than just one photo, and used a recording of Olesia or Carmelo and Paco over that. But mostly all I did today was listen, and share, and add some love and hopes of my own to those of others. I did make something - very small, for someone else, with paper, outside - that’s definitely part of a bigger project. It’s an image and a wish!

Saludos

I wanted to find a way to introduce Froebel’s teachings about nature and the garden to my grandson but did not know where to begin.

Fortuitously Google pulled together my recent searches on Froebel blocks, squares, etc. and the Square Foot Gardening Foundation’s website appeared in my recommendations list. The site provides wonderfully rich resources. I purchased Mel’s book and watched a couple of videos to get started.

We decided which vegetable and flower seeds to purchase and started germinating them on paper towels in sandwich bags. This gave us a close up way to look at the seeds, compare, contrast and watch as the roots began to sprout.
I covered a strong cardboard box with weed fabric.
We mixed together the 1/3 peat moss, vermiculite and compost that makes up “Mel’s mix”.
We planted the seeds.
We watered.
We wait and watch things grow. Each day we visit the garden and are delighted by the daily changes as we learn about nature.
We look forward to the harvest!

Again I am in awe of the work of Friedrich Froebel and his relevance today.

It’s so inspiring to hear of this wonderful project with your grandson @Joanne :seedling:

I received an exciting news today about an origami project which I did two years ago, and I decided to share it here…

I have been folding papers since I was a kid. I designed my very first origami a few years ago while I was randomly folding a chocolate wrapper and I suddenly saw a resemblance to a famous landmark in Tehran (Azadi Tower).
The part of the project that I want to share today is the process of submitting it to OrigamiUSA (the largest organization in the United States).
From books, websites, and videos, I have folded hundreds of origami. Sometimes instructions are easy to follow and sometimes they are very challenging. Working on my own project diagram, it was the first time I realized how difficult it is to draw instructions for a 3D object in 2D. I tried different software until I found the one which worked for me, then I drew my step-by-step instruction many times. I’ve asked different people to test fold my instruction and give me feedback. I really wanted to make it perfect and it was taking me a lot of time, but at some point, I realized there is probably no perfect…
Finally, I finished the diagram and submitted it. There were a few emails back and forth and some changes were asked. It was finally accepted, and today I found out that it has been published in their 2022 Origami Collection! (2022 Origami Collection | OrigamiUSA)

image

If I had more time (and probably more skills in the software), I would continue the diagram because my complete piece is two-sided but I only drew one side diagram

If anyone is interested in folding it, my diagram is available here:

We are working on making a Pinata to celebrate the 10th birthday of Code Club. Pinatas are not known in Iraq and this will be the first time ever our children see one. I am super excited to finish it but it is hard to find all the materials. I will share once we finish it :)
